Wordpress is a CMS tool that was initially designed to be used as a Blog, which is a tool that will allow people to publish simple written articles and thoughts. Wordpress is an open source free tool that was created by developers for anyone to use.

Wordpress amazingly was only first created in 2003 but since then Wordpress is used on millions of websites around the world. Here at Gt Web Design we use Wordpress in different ways on different sites depending on the finction that is required and benefits it would offer. One of the latest sites that we have created which was for the Lindfield Primary School PTA was built entirely using Wordpress.

Wordpress now has the facility where you can have both the Blog functionality and pages on the site installation and so this allows the software to be used to make a whole website. THe benefit in the case of Lindfield PTA is that they are able to control the content on every page of the website as well as adding pages, articles and news whenever they need to.

The other way we find is really beneficial to use Wordpress is to use the specific blog part of the website. There are a number of benefits of this tool but the largest reason we suggest its use for is to communicate with your customers. A good example of this is Seven Sins Tattoo where they have been using this to let customers know what is going on in the shop, what new art, facilities and people are in the shop as well. This great for keeping customer informed and getting customers to come back and feel part of the experience. The blog allows you to show the human side of the company which depending on your company style can make a great difference.

Wordpress also offers LOADS of other tools in the guise of FREE plugins - This is the ability to add in smaller tools into parts of Wordpress to add new finctionatlity. An example of this is that you are able to add a plugin that will allow you to link a page in the wordpress section to a photo album account and have an online album. This would allow you to load images on a photo solution website and then integrate it to the website. Wordpress also has a you tube plug in to allow you to have videos on your website and so you can add the videos free onto youtube, then add them for free on to your website.
